Refreshing Your Curls Between Wash Days

If your curls start to lose their shape, get frizzy, or just feel off after your wash day - this is for you!
I recently took an advanced curl class in Chicago and wanted to share three of the most important refresh tips that will help bring your curls back to life:
1) Section properly first
How you section your hair matters more than you think.
For tighter curls: work in more sections (4–6 per side)
For looser curls/waves: fewer sections (2–3 per side)
When refreshing, you need to be able to work through all the hair. If your sections are too big, the inner hair won’t get properly refreshed.
2) Focus on adding hydration
On refresh days, focus on adding moisture (hydration from products and/or water) back in. As the days go on, your hair loses hydration, so refreshing is really about replenishing it.
But you don’t always need water.
Only reach for it when your curls have completely lost their shape (think frizzy, no definition). That’s when water helps bring the curl pattern back to life.
In this case, the curlier your hair, the wetter it should be:
Light mist for wavy/curly hair
More water for very curly
Very wet for coily textures

3) Fill and seal with products
When your hair still has some shape, skip the water - it will only slow down the drying process.
With your hair sectioned, it's time to add product. Start with a lightweight filler (like Innersense's Sweet Spirit Leave-In Conditioner) to restore moisture first. Then layer in a hold product (like Innersense’s I Create Volume).
Don’t be afraid to touch your hair! Reshaping and re-clumping is part of the process. Use some pressure (“milk” or praying hands) to smooth each section to help curls re-form and regain definition.
4) Diffuse!
Diffuse it or lose it - don’t skip this step! Work in sections, drying a few at a time. You’ll be surprised how quickly it dries and how fast the whole refresh comes together.
