Fillers for your hair? Yes, it's a thing!

Ever feel like your curls just aren’t popping the way they used to? You might be missing a key step in your routine: a hair filler.

What is a hair filler?

Think of your hair like a curvy road with potholes. A filler smooths those bumps out by adding hydration and slip—giving your strands what they need to clump together into soft, defined curls or waves.

Different hair types need different kinds of fillers. Here are a few of my favorites from Innersense:

  • Fine Hair: Sweet Spirit Leave-In or I Create Volume

  • Medium Hair: I Create Volume or I Create Hold

  • Coarse Hair: I Create Hold or I Create Curl Memory

How to apply a filler:

The magic of a filler comes down to how it’s applied.

Here’s the trick:

  • Start with hair that’s very wet—almost dripping.

  • Section your hair into at least 6 parts (more is even better). Use sectioning clips to help, like in the picture above.

  • Apply your filler section by section, using a comb or your fingers to ensure it’s evenly distributed.

  • You’re aiming for that slimy, slippery, hydrated feeling—that’s how you know it’s working!

When applied correctly, your curls will naturally clump together into gorgeous ringlets or waves—with less frizz and more bounce like in the picture below!
