Dry Hair

One thing I’ve started doing lately is keeping track of common client pain points after appointments. If I had to pick one of the most common, it would be this:



"My hair always feels dry"


Often, I find this is true for most clients with coarse hair. Coarse hair has the largest strand diameter and typically requires more hydration than fine or medium hair.





Do you have coarse hair?

Roll a clean, dry strand between your fingers. If it feels thick and sturdy, your hair is likely coarse.



Solution


Before reaching for yet another styling product, I want to know that your hair has absorbed enough water and conditioner to be properly hydrated. That’s why I’m always talking about this- Before you rinse out your conditioner make sure you're achieving that “slimy” feeling first.



Don't know how to achieve the slippery, smooth, slimy feeling? In the curly world, one technique is called Squish to Condish.





After shampooing, apply a generous amount of conditioner to soaking wet hair. Scrunch your curls, then continue adding water and scrunching until- you guessed it, your hair feels slimy!

 

 That's how you know your hair is fully hydrated.



Try This



These are two of my favorite conditioners to help you reach that slimy feeling. Innersense Color Radiance Daily Conditioner- great slip, and Innersense Hydrating Cream Conditioner - lots of hydration.








Still not working?



If you’re not able to achieve that slippery, slimy feeling, even after working in your conditioner (aka. squish to condish style) buildup may be getting in the way.





That’s when I recommend CLARIFYING. My favorite is Detox Hair Mask by Innersense because it helps remove buildup that can prevent moisture from getting into the hair and make that slippery, hydrated feeling much harder to achieve.


Sometimes the solution isn’t more products. Sometimes it’s simply HELPING your hair absorb the moisture you’re already giving it.
