It's no secret that winter's cold temps and dry air can really take their toll on your scalp!
Â
If you find your scalp getting tight, itchy, or even flaky this time of year, try these soothing tips!
#1 - MOISTURIZE REGULARLY: Regularly apply a moisturizing treatment or oil. Opt for natural carrier oils like coconut oil, jojoba oil, or almond oil, which have soothing and moisturizing properties. Gently massage the oil into your scalp and leave it on for at least 30 minutes before washing it out.
Â
#2 - USE GENTLE SHAMPOO: Choose a sulfate-free, mild shampoo that is specifically designed for dry or sensitive scalps. Harsh chemicals in some shampoos can strip the scalp of its natural oils, exacerbating dryness. Wash your hair no more than a few times a week to avoid over-cleansing, which can also contribute to dryness.
Â
#3 - AVOID HOT WATER AND HEAT STYLING:Â Hot water can strip the scalp of its natural oils, leading to dryness. When washing your hair, use lukewarm water instead. Additionally, limit the use of heat styling tools like hairdryers and straighteners, as excessive heat can contribute to scalp dryness. If you must use heat styling tools, apply a heat protectant and use them on the lowest setting possible.
And next time you're in the salon, ask about my treatment for dry scalp!
